Abstract
This study developed and validated storied puppet plays designed to enhance the cognitive skills of kindergarten pupils at Pareja Integrated School. It employed a descriptive-evaluative approach with a pretest-posttest component involving 60 kindergarten pupils and expert validation of the developed materials. The storied puppet plays were evaluated in terms of content, format, presentation and organization, and accuracy and updatedness. Results showed that content obtained an overall weighted mean of 4.80, interpreted as Very Highly Valid, while format and presentation and organization both obtained 4.20, and accuracy and updatedness obtained 4.49, interpreted as Highly Valid. Before the intervention, 66.7% of the pupils demonstrated Low cognitive skills, while 21.7% were Very Low and 11.7% were Moderately High. After exposure, 76.7% attained Very High cognitive skills, while 23.3% attained High cognitive skills. The mean score increased from 6.23 (SD = 1.93) to 17.27 (SD = 1.35), with a significant mean difference of 11.03, t = -52.236, p < .001. Pupils also rated the intervention Very Effective, with an overall weighted mean of 2.92. The findings demonstrate that the validated storied puppet plays significantly enhanced pupils’ cognitive skills while generating favorable learner reactions.
