The Efficacy of Interactive Digital Learning Modules In Mastering Basic Word Processing Skills

Abstract

This study determined the efficacy of an Interactive Digital Learning Module (IDLM) in mastering basic word processing skills among Grade 8 learners at Butuan City School of Arts and Trades. It focused on the design and development of the module, expert evaluation, learners’ pretest and posttest performance, significant difference between pretest and posttest scores, learners’ appreciation, and possible enhancements. The study involved 37 Grade 8 learners and 5 experts. The module was developed through the ADDIE model. Data were gathered using an expert evaluation checklist, pretest and posttest, and a learners’ appreciation questionnaire. The findings showed that the module was Highly Acceptable in content quality, instructional quality, and technical quality. Learners’ performance improved from a pretest mean of 18.38 to a posttest mean of 25.38, with a mean difference of 7.00. The paired-samples t-test yielded a t-value of 10.23 and a p-value of < .001, indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest performances. Learners positively appreciated the module, with weighted means ranging from 4.26 to 4.53. Enjoyment and Engagement obtained the highest weighted mean of 4.53, interpreted as Very Effective. The module may be enhanced by improving its visual presentation, screen layout, navigation features, guided practice, and interactive activities. The study concluded that the IDLM was a highly acceptable and effective learning resource for improving learners’ basic word processing skills.
