Abstract
This research paper conducts a rigorous empirical investigation into the financial performance of a leading Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) company in India over a seven-year period (2019-2025). The study utilizes a comprehensive set of financial ratios to dissect the firm’s profitability, liquidity, solvency, and operational efficiency, aiming to provide a holistic strategic diagnosis. The analysis reveals a critical paradox: while the company has demonstrated robust profitability and operational efficiency, its liquidity position has been deteriorating, signaling potential short-term financial distress. Key findings indicate a strong positive correlation (r = 0.85) between operational efficiency (measured by Inventory Turnover Ratio) and profitability (Net Profit Margin), but a negative correlation (r = -0.72) between profitability growth and the Current Ratio. This divergence underscores the strategic trade-off between aggressive growth and maintaining a healthy liquidity buffer. The research concludes that the company’s financial health is bifurcated; it is exceptionally strong in terms of long-term earning capacity but vulnerable in the short term. Based on these findings, the study proposes a dual-pronged strategic framework with strong recommendations for optimizing working capital management, enhancing cash flow forecasting, and strategically leveraging debt to fund growth without compromising liquidity. This research provides actionable insights for financial managers, investors, and policymakers, emphasizing that financial performance analysis is not just a backward-looking metric but a forward-looking strategic imperative for sustainable corporate success in a volatile economic landscape.
