Abstract

This study focused on the development and evaluation of Strategic Intervention Materials (SIMs) for Grade 7 Science in Kitcharao District to address the least-mastered competencies among learners under the MATATAG Curriculum. Employing a descriptive-developmental research design with a quasi-experimental approach, the study identified the least-learned competencies across the four science domains: matter and solubility; cellular processes and heredity; force and motion; and Earth and space science. Based on these identified learning gaps, four competency-based SIMs were systematically developed using the ADDIE Model and evaluated using the Department of Education Learning Resource Management and Development System (LRMDS) Evaluation Tool for Print Resources. Participants included five expert validators, thirteen Science teachers, and thirty Grade 7 learners. Findings revealed that the developed SIMs attained a “Very Satisfactory” rating for content, format, presentation, organization, and information accuracy. Learners likewise expressed strong agreement regarding the clarity, usability, attractiveness, and effectiveness of the materials. Results of the paired t-test demonstrated statistically significant improvements in learners’ post-test scores, indicating the effectiveness of the SIMs in enhancing science competencies. The study recommends the institutionalization and integration of validated SIMs as supplemental learning resources at the school, district, and division levels to improve Science instruction and address persistent learning gaps.
