Abstract
The present research work focuses on the formulation and evaluation of medicated chocolate containing Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid). Vitamin C is an essential water-soluble vitamin widely used for immune enhancement, antioxidant protection, collagen synthesis, and prevention of scurvy. Conventional dosage forms such as tablets and capsules may cause swallowing difficulty and poor patient compliance, especially in pediatric and geriatric patients. Therefore, medicated chocolate was selected as an innovative and patient-friendly drug delivery system. The chocolate formulation was prepared using cocoa butter, cocoa powder, milk powder, sugar, lecithin, and flavoring agents. Vitamin C was incorporated into the molten chocolate base by fusion method. The prepared medicated chocolates were evaluated for organoleptic properties, weight variation, hardness, friability, drug content uniformity, melting point, dissolution study, and stability studies. The formulation showed good taste masking, satisfactory hardness, acceptable drug content, and proper stability. The prepared medicated chocolate can be considered as a suitable alternative oral dosage form for Vitamin C delivery with improved patient compliance and palatability.
