Seclusion and Evaluation of Bacteria from Termite Mound of Soil

Abstract

This study focuses on the seclusion and evaluation of bacteria isolated from termite mound soil, an environment known for its rich microbial diversity and unique physicochemical properties. Termite mounds provide a stable habitat with high organic matter, making them a promising source of novel and functionally significant microorganisms. Soil samples were collected from selected termite mounds and subjected to serial dilution and culture techniques to isolate distinct bacterial colonies. The isolates were characterized based on morphological, biochemical, and physiological traits. Further in mound formation evaluation included screening for termite activities such as bacteria to support making of mound. Additionally, selected isolates were tested for bacteria activity against common pathogenic strains to assess their pharmaceutical relevance through Nutrient Agar Media (NAM). The findings revealed a diverse population of bacteria with notable metabolic capabilities, indicating the ecological importance of termite mound micro flora. This study highlights the potential of termite mound soil as a reservoir for beneficial bacteria that can be harnessed for biotechnological, agricultural, and medical purposes, thereby contributing to sustainable development and microbial resource exploration.
