Impact of Global Geopolitical Tensions on Vietnamese Stock Market: An Event Study Approach

Thi-Tuyet-Mai Nguyen1*

Abstract

This paper investigates the impact of major global geopolitical tension events on the VN-Index using the Event Study methodology. Daily return data of the VN-Index are employed to measure Abnormal Returns (AR) and Cumulative Abnormal Returns (CAR) surrounding event dates. The analysis applies a standard event window and estimation window framework to capture short-term market reactions to geopolitical shocks. The findings provide empirical evidence on whether the Vietnamese stock market reacts significantly to international geopolitical shocks. The results offer important implications for investors and policymakers in improving risk management strategies under conditions of geopolitical uncertainty.
