Abstract
The process of filing income tax in India has traditionally been viewed as complex, time-consuming, and stressful for individuals and businesses alike. With the rapid growth of digital infrastructure and fintech innovation, platforms such as ClearTax have emerged to simplify and modernize tax compliance. This study examines how ClearTax’s digital platform contributes to simplifying the Indian income tax filing process through automation, artificial intelligence, user-friendly interface design, and integrated financial tools.
Using a quantitative descriptive research approach, data was collected from 56 respondents who regularly interact with the ClearTax platform, including tax professionals and support staff. The findings indicate that a significant majority perceive ClearTax as more efficient than traditional manual methods, particularly in reducing paperwork, improving accessibility across devices, and enhancing overall convenience. While automation and calculation accuracy were positively rated, a notable proportion of respondents expressed the need for greater transparency in automated processes and clearer explanations of tax concepts.
The study concludes that digital tax platforms play a transformative role in increasing voluntary compliance, building user confidence, and making tax filing more accessible to diverse taxpayer categories such as salaried employees, freelancers, and business owners. However, continuous improvements in user education, interface clarity, and calculation transparency are essential to further strengthen trust and adoption. Overall, ClearTax represents a significant step toward the digital transformation of India’s tax administration ecosystem.
