Design and Development of a Contextualized Learning Module on Data and Probability for Grade 1 Learners

Renegen C. Seraño1*, Julie S. Berame, PhD2

Abstract

This study focused on the design and development of a Contextualized Learning Module (CLM) on Data and Probability for Grade 1 learners. The study employed a developmental research design. The participants were five experts in elementary mathematics education, curriculum and instruction, and learning resource development evaluated the module using an LRMDS evaluation tool. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and standard deviation. The developed CLM incorporated concrete, visual, interactive, and contextualized activities involving data collection through simple interviews, sorting and classification, pictograph construction and interpretation, organization of pictograph information into tables, and basic probability concepts. Expert evaluation showed Very Good Quality across the four criteria, content quality, instructional quality, technical/physical quality, and contextualization. This indicate that the CLM is a relevant, appropriate, and high-quality supplementary learning resource for introducing Data and Probability concepts to Grade 1 learners. The study recommends continued refinement based on classroom use, learner feedback, and further validation across diverse educational contexts. It may support contextualized early mathematics instruction in similar elementary school settings.
