Abstract
Microencapsulation refers to a pharmaceutical technique that encompasses the process of enclosing minute particles or droplets of an active substance with a protective coating. It is extensively applied in pharmacy for improving drug stability, masking unpleasant taste and odor, reducing drug incompatibility, and controlling the release of drugs. A variety of techniques have been developed for preparing microcapsules, including coacervation, spray drying, solvent evaporation, and fluidized-bed coating. The choice of the appropriate coating material and methods plays a key role in obtaining microcapsules with the desired properties. A crucial importance of this technology is related to the fact that it allows to enhance the quality and effectiveness of pharmaceutical products. The present article discusses the principles, types, methods, materials, applications, advantages, limitations, and evaluation of microencapsulation. Particular attention is paid to the importance of this technology in pharmacy.
