Abstract
In today’s digital era, the financial sector faces increasing cybersecurity challenges as cybercriminals exploit technological advancements to target sensitive data and financial systems. Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB), one of Ghana’s largest and most trusted banks, is no exception to this trend. As the financial sector in Ghana increasingly embraces digital transformation, Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) faces significant challenges in safeguarding its digital assets and customer information from a growing array of cyber threats. The rise in online banking services has not only enhanced customer convenience but has also exposed the bank to sophisticated cyberattacks. The aim of this research is to explore the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enhancing cybersecurity threat detection and response mechanisms within Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) by evaluating the Effectiveness of AI in Threat Detection, analyzing the Impact on Cybersecurity operations, identifying challenges they face using machine learning models. All applied models resulted in cybersecurity detection accuracy of 95% and above, but the most accurate is the use of Deep Learning model which gave an accuracy of 98%. In conclusion, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into Ghana Commercial Bank’s (GCB) cybersecurity framework marks a significant advancement in the bank’s efforts to safeguard its digital assets, customer data, and operational integrity. It is therefore recommended based on the findings of this study, enhancing GCB’s cybersecurity posture through AI integration, continuous investment is needed in AI Innovation, strengthening Human-AI Collaboration, enhance Regulatory Compliance, mitigating AI-Specific Risks, and expanding Collaborative Partnerships.
