Abstract

In recent years, crowdfunding has emerged as a disruptive and democratic financing mechanism that enables early-stage entrepreneurs to raise capital beyond traditional banking and venture capital channels. By leveraging online platforms, social networks, and community-driven trust, startups—especially in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities—can access funding from a diverse pool of micro-investors. This paper examines the role of crowdfunding as an alternative financing model for startups in India, exploring its opportunities, risks, and regulatory challenges. The study relies on secondary data, global and Indian case studies, and comparative financial insights to evaluate the effectiveness of crowdfunding in bridging capital gaps. The paper further highlights the impact of crowdfunding on financial inclusion, entrepreneurial innovation, and investor empowerment.
