Abstract
Ensuring the authenticity, availability, and safety of medicines in pharmacies is a critical challenge in healthcare. Expired medicines can pose serious health risks, while stock shortages can disrupt patient treatment. To address these issues, we propose SmartMed Track, an intelligent medicine authentication, expiry tracking, and stock prediction system using IoT, barcode scanning, and AI-driven analytics. The system automatically monitors medicine expiry dates and displays real-time alerts on a pharmacy’s monitor when a medicine is nearing expiration. The alert remains active until the expired medicine is removed, ensuring that no outdated drugs are dispensed. Additionally, SmartMed Track predicts stock levels and notifies pharmacy staff when a medicine is about to go out of stock, preventing shortages. The system also authenticates medicines using barcode scanning to detect counterfeit drugs and enhance patient safety. This scalable and efficient solution leverages embedded systems, real- time monitoring, and predictive analytics to automate pharmaceutical inventory management. By improving medicine safety, reducing waste, and optimizing stock control, SmartMed Track enhances the reliability and efficiency of pharmacy operations, ensuring better healthcare outcomes.
