Tracer Study of Graduates in Master of Arts in Teaching Major in Social Studies of Sultan Kudarat State University Graduate School 2023-2024

Abstract

In higher education, tracer studies have emerged as vital tools in assessing the relevance, quality, and real-life application of academic programs. This study aims to trace the professional development of graduates from the Master of Arts in Teaching major in Social Studies program. Utilizing a descriptive-correlational research design, data were gathered from 22 program graduates from Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) for the academic year 2023–2024. The findings indicate that the majority of MAT- major in Social Studies graduates are employed in teaching positions within the Department of Education, with many achieving promotional advancements. Notably, most graduates experienced significant career progression, advancing by at least two (2) steps due to the competencies acquired through the program. Furthermore, statistical analysis revealed a significant difference in employment status before and after completing the MAT-major in Social Studies program, with a large and strong correlation between the degree earned and subsequent employability. These results underscore the effectiveness of SKSU’s MAT- major in Social Studies program on career advancement within educational settings. It recommends to regularly conduct tracer studies to track the employment outcomes of graduates and gather insights to further enhance the program.
