Understanding Crime Against Women: With Special Reference to Domestic Violence
Khyati Singh1*, Drone Krishna2
Abstract
This study looks into the widespread problem of domestic abuse as a major crime against women in India. It looks at the historical, social, and legal factors that have affected women’s standing and made them more likely to be abused. The paper looks closely at the several types of violence that happen at home, including physical, sexual, psychological, and economic abuse. It also shows how deep-rooted sexism and power disparities between men and women keep these terrible things happening. The article also looks at important legal frameworks including the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, and Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code. It does this by looking at their strengths, weaknesses, and how courts have interpreted them. The study shows how hard it is for women to get justice and protection, even though the Constitution promises equality and there are several laws that protect women. It ends by underlining the need for better enforcement of laws, more public awareness, and stronger institutional structures to stop domestic abuse and protect women’s rights and dignity in Indian society.
