Abstract
With increasing reliance of global logistics platforms on multi-cloud infrastructure to support real-time operations, it has become mission-critical to ensure secure adaptive access control. Traditional access models like role-based and static policies are not suitable for such dynamic and threat-laden systems. This study presents the design and implementation of an Autonomous Zero Trust Orchestration (ZTO) framework that provides real-time, risk-adaptive access control over heterogeneous multi-cloud environments. The proposed system avails itself of artificial intelligence and perpetual monitoring to assess risks associated with entities (users, devices) and contexts before permitting access. The framework integrates Zero Trust principles with dynamic policy mining and hence relates access decisions to real-time threat intelligence and behavioral analytics. After evaluation of simulated logistics operations on AWS, Azure and GCP environments, it was shown that the system considerably limits the opportunity window to an ever-increasing threat landscape at highly accurate access decisions and with virtually negligible latency. Given the increased incidences of cyberattacks aimed at critical logistics infrastructure and the global nature of supply chains, this study aligns with the national interest for U.S. national security towards securing transportation, trade and defense logistics. The study also has direct applicability in alignment with the U.S. Executive Order on Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity (2021), NIST SP 800-207 guidelines, and DHS cybersecurity priorities. Its direct merit in national security and economic stability makes this activity an invaluable innovation concerning the national interest.
