Hydrobiological Parameters of Bindusara River, District Beed, Maharashtra, India

Abstract

This study presents a structured hydrobiological assessment framework for the Bindusara river in Beed. The paper describes site selection, seasonal sampling (monsoon, post-monsoon, pre-monsoon), analytical methods (physico-chemical, nutrients, biological oxygen demand, bacterial indicators), statistical treatment, Water Quality Index (WQI) calculation, and management implications.Results from the experimental studies indicate alkaline pH, moderate to high TDS and electrical conductivity (EC), variable dissolved oxygen (DO) levels and episodic nutrient enrichment (nitrate and phosphate), suggesting anthropogenic influence from agricultural runoff and domestic inputs. Interpretation uses Indian (BIS) and international (WHO) standards and regional water-quality reports to place findings in context. Recommendations include targeted monitoring, community awareness, and pollution-source control.
