Investigation of Biogas Yield Composition From Agricultural Waste

Abstract
In addition to solving the problems associated with agricultural waste management, the creation of biogas from agricultural waste provides an environmentally responsible and sustainable way to meet the Nigeria energy needs. The goal of this study is to produce and assess the composition of biogas from a specific set of agricultural waste, such as food scraps and animal manure, that comes from agricultural production and processing operations. Using a 30-liter plastic digester, the agricultural waste was anaerobically digested without oxygen to produce the biogas. A portable gas meter was used in the lab to test the biogas produced by the anaerobic digestion process, and statistical analysis was performed on the experimental data generated. These were the findings of the compositional analysis: 25.15% carbon dioxide (CO₂), 1.95% carbon monoxide (CO), 69.25% methane (CH₄), 1.05% hydrogen sulphide (H₂S), 2.35% water vapor (H₂O), and other gases present as 0.25%. With a good yield of methane content, the analysis’s conclusion shows that used agricultural waste is a viable feedstock for the production of renewable energy.
