Technological Approaches to Sustainable Forestland Management

Abstract

Sustainable forestland management (SFM) has increasingly relied on technological innovation to respond to global challenges such as deforestation, loss of biodiversity, and climate change. Emerging technologies such as remote sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), the Internet of Things (IoT), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are examined in this paper for their potential to advance the sustainable monitoring, protection, and utilization of forest resources. These technologies improve the precision of forest estimation, facilitate early detection of illegality, and promote data-informed decision-making for conservation and policy-making. The research also explores the environmental, economic, and social gains that accrue from technology-driven forest management practices, including enhanced carbon stock estimation, lowered monitoring expense, and enhanced community engagement. In addition, it addresses the policy and governance implications of embracing such innovations, highlighting the necessity for effective institutional capacity, open data systems, and cross-sectoral coordination. Evidence indicates that technology, with solid governance and inclusive policy support, can dramatically improve forest sustainability and resilience. Blending digital tools with participatory governance platforms offers a revolutionary way toward realizing sustainable ecological balance and socio-economic progress in forest ecosystems.
