The Importance of Statistics in Healthcare: A Review

Abstract

This review examines the critical role of statistics in healthcare, focusing on its applications in evidence-based decision-making, clinical research, public health, hospital management, personalized medicine, and medical education. A systematic search of academic databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect was conducted, selecting studies that address the use of statistical methods across these healthcare sectors. Key findings emphasize how statistical techniques support the analysis of clinical trials, disease patterns, and patient outcomes, ultimately guiding healthcare practices and policies. Challenges such as data integrity, ethical concerns, and statistical literacy are also discussed, highlighting the need for improved understanding and application of statistics in healthcare settings. The review concludes that as healthcare continues to evolve, the integration of statistical methods will remain vital in improving patient care, optimizing treatment protocols, and advancing personalized medicine, despite the challenges that exist. Addressing these challenges is essential for maximizing the benefits of statistical analysis in healthcare decision-making.
