Abstract
This study investigates the synthesis and characterization of a copper(II) complex formed by reacting copper acetate monohydrate with oxyquinoline as a ligand. The synthesis was carried out using the reflux method, which resulted in the formation of a stable copper-oxyquinoline complex. The synthesized complex was characterized by solubility testing, melting point determination, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. The solubility test showed that the complex was soluble in ethanol, methanol, and acetonitrile but insoluble in water. The melting point of the complex was found to be 380°C, indicating the formation of a stable complex. FTIR analysis revealed key functional groups involved in metal-ligand coordination, such as C=N and C-O stretching vibrations. Elemental analysis confirmed the stoichiometric composition of the complex, with results consistent with the proposed structure. This work contributes to the understanding of copper (II) coordination chemistry and the potential applications of copper-oxyquinoline complexes in catalysis and drug delivery.
