Ochor Daniel Chinonso1*

Abstract

Sports development in Nigeria faces significant challenges stemming from economic instability, financial investment, and psychological factors influencing athlete performance. This study examines the economic barriers to sports participation, the role of goal-setting and psychological resilience, and the impact of financial investment on Nigeria’s Olympic performance. A systematic review of existing literature highlights key themes such as the economics of sports development, psychological preparation strategies, and performance enhancement techniques. Findings suggest that economic constraints hinder athlete participation and performance, while structured goal-setting and psychological resilience contribute to success. Additionally, financial investment in sports has a direct impact on Nigeria’s Olympic performance, underscoring the need for strategic policy implementation. The study recommends targeted financial support, enhanced psychological training, and structured goal-setting frameworks to improve athlete development and performance in Nigeria.
